LR mounting question

ok picking up the 90G today and have some LR, Fugi and tongo deepwater, I've read before about using PVC???? for base or something along those lines? i can't recall right now. Also does anybody worry about the LR falling over and cracking the glass? i'm going to be setting things up later today and want to get the facts. i'll be cycling the tank using the LR.

Securing the rock properly is very important; falling rock can crack an aquarium and/or kill livestock.

I like to keep my reefscape low as with rubble piles found near natural reefs.
I lock the rock together like fitting two pieces of a puzzle together.
There are many other options such as using an epoxy or thicker based glue, fastening the rock using zip ties or nylon cord, and if you really wish to become creative, you can drill the rock and use rigid nylon bolts or rods.

Remember not to use any metal products when submersing in saltwater.

Cool

If you plan on stacking high the bigger pieces usually work more better as a base because it can be more stable. If you have a little rock on top and it falls I don't think it will crack afterall it wont fall as hard in the water.
I keep my rock away from the glass in order to use my magnetic cleaner.

I have the same dilemma, except I have 190lbs of LR, of which the biggest is 25lbs....

Want to create caves, etc, for my lionfish, and Puffer, I do not have any fish yet....

Looked for a thread on how to do the drilling, acrylic rods, but have not found anything yet...Can someone point me in the right direction??

What type of bit, where do you get acrylic rods, do you drill completey through, or just enough to hold the rock on?

I have heard of LR shishkabobs, which leads me to believe you drill completely through the rock, should it also be glued? What happens if I need to re-aquascape??

Sorry for high jacking your thread, but need some answers ASAP!! Adding rock in the next few weeks!

Thanks!

Hey PP,
The only thing I have gathered from this is that if you use a thin layer of eggcrate on the bottom of your tank, just under the top layer of sand, using pvc pices to elevate it, you can then either drill your bottom rocks completely through, and "zip" tie them to the eggcrate, thus creating a stable foundation for your other rock...make sure to drill some holes in the sides of the PVC to allow water flow, and less detrius, and easier to clean, IMO...

HTH!

and then simply drill a few inches into your smaller rocks that will be on top, and place the acrylic rod partially in each hole on both rocks...kinda like adowel rod to hold two pieces of wood together...

I am personally NOT going to add any glue, or epoxy to my rockwork, in case I need to chenge it... My house is also for sale, would hate to have to try and pull and 50-60lb rock out of my syatem because I had glued them all together...

Am going to check around for some acrylic rod...will let you know what i find out...

Think the eggcrate thing is a good idea.....may try it before I add water to the tank, see how it looks! Will keep you posted!
