why us a wetdry
i had a wetdry on a 75 years ago i had to change 30g every 2 weeks they are the worst. your rocks do the bio i would wory about nutrient export

I don't think it was the wet/dry. I think it was poor husbandry. There are thousands of wet/dry fish only systems that are very successful all over the world.
Like any type of filtration, you have to keep them clean, not overfeed and keep a low bio load. It's not always as easy as it seems. Regards, Pat

the tank had a 2.5 huma a small dwarf lion and a few other small fish.the tank was vaced every water change i know have a fuge and it is 0 acros the board and i only change 10% a month i feel a wetdry is a expensive big box that does alot of nothing

A wet/dry does exactly what is suppose to do. I think what Pat was trying to say is for certain systems the wet/dry system works very well. I currently have a wet/dry sump (although I am in the process of taking the bio balls out) and my readings are great across the board.

i just feel in the long run they are a waste if i never started using a fuge i would have droped the hobby

I use mine as a wet\dry and also use it as a fuge tank COMBO
Also in the process of taking out my bio balls

I just removed the bio balls from mine and made it a fuge. Its sooooooo much better. Water changes have become less frequent. The bio balls do thier job very well, maybe too well. If you have enough rock I would go for a fuge over the wet/dry every time.

like others have said, bio-balls do what they are supposed to. they break down ammonia and nitrite. but nitrates will still be there.

Not to hijack the thread, but dont skimmers remove nitrates?
