tiger cowry tear up bryosis!

I saw some tiger cowry on a LFS and bought 2. Don't know much about them. But I have problems with bryopsis. After about 3 weeks they clear up pretty much all my bryopsis and especially between my zoo rock. It is spotless. I watch them all the time at night and saw them eating it. I recomment this as part of your cleaning crew! I got the smaller ones because they can get big. But so far no problems at all.

Ring and money cowries stay quite small, but these guys are great at clearing up unwanted algae. More people should have them. Though sometimes I go two months or more without seeing them lol.

There's some good info at reefkeeping.com

Conches (Strombus sp.) are also an excellent addition to your cleanup crew, they'll keep the sandbed clean ... though hermit crabs tend to eat them.

do you have hermit crabs? My hermits kill most snails I put in and conchs don't seem to have a chance in my tank.

If you have a tiger cowrie, you need to keep feeding it fresh algae or it will starve. Tigers are large animals and can't survive only on what grows in your tank.

I have a few, but I don't think I'll replace them when they're gone ... though I bought two red-legged ones and 4 blue-legged in December, but I must have at least 9 blue-legged ones in there now I guess they must have bred.

I have a 2" and 3.25" conch that have managed to evade capture... I think it helps too that lately I've been dropping formula 1 pellets in the tank for them.

Have you tried Red Banded Trochus Snails? Those are the best, never tip anything over, can right themselves if they fall, get big enough to avoid being eaten, and aren't cold-water like many of the snails sold in the hobby.

When they are done cleaning my tank I will give them some seeweed or put them in my sump. I only have scarlet hermits in my tank so they are very peaceful, unlike blue leg. I got them in livermore pet extreme like 10 bucks each. There are quite a few when I bought the 2 cowries a month ago.
