How much of an influence are old bulbs on causing nuisance algae growth?

There might be some for some type of algae but in my opinion there is a lot more influence by Phosphates and Nitrates. If you keep those two under control the lighting issue will be more limited to fullfill your coral needs rather than an algae issue.
