Canister question

I know you guys have had this one before, but, here goes... Would it hurt to leave out the floss and pads and just leave the carbon? Or should I leave every thing in the way it should be?

I use a Magnum 350 on my reef fairly often. Sometimes I use it with the pleated filter alone, sometimes pleated filter with floss type sleeve. When using it with the carbon canister sometimes I wrap the carbon canister with the sleeve, sometimes not. I really dont think it matters, the important thing is to keep it changed regularly so youre actually exporting the nutrients from your tank.

Yea, I have been cleaning the pads and floss on every water change, and the carbon every month or so. I am new to this canister deal and I want to make it work the best I can.
