basic lighting

Hello i'm not too new to the sw reefing but I have one main question I can’t figure out and have asked many people but they each tell me different. I have a 40 gal breeder and that’s 36" across so do I use 2 175's or 2 250's or 1 400 and also everyone is telling me 20k XM or radium’s but I don’t think that will give much growth. I also have 2 URI super actinic also for supplement but i'm thinking 10k ushios and the URIs for the blue color. I have LPS and softies but will have SPS soon and many clams don’t know what to do!

Your not getting THE ONE correct answer because there is no one correct answer. It all depends on your set up and what you want. IMO, any of the options you listed would do. For a tank that shallow, the 175s should penatrate enough. Many will prefer the extra of the 250s, and still others will say you can't get those colors without 400 watts. Others will say 400 watts is useless, your not getting anything but higher temps and electric bills with 400 watts. So this is a decision you just have to make for yourself.
