how can i lower nitrite's

Hey,

I know that water changes are obvious, I did a water change on saturday [15 gallons on my 90 gallon tank] and my nitrites still haven't gone down.

amm- .25
nitrite- .50
nitrate- 10
PH - 8.2
temp - 79

Any help is much appreciated

EJ

sounds good, wouldn't / should the nitrites convert on their own to nitrates.

How long has your tank been set up? It looks like it is still cycling.

Well if you are using a DSB it usually takes a couple of months for the bed to stratify and develop de-nitrifying ability.

Yes, I have a 4 inch sand bed...That could be it. SO should I still do larger water changes or wait it out?

I agree that nitrite is not an issue in saltwater tanks. Some 20% water changes might help clean up the water column, but I'd be worried more about any toxins, etc, released by the decay of live rock.
