how can i lower nitrite's
Hey,
I know that water changes are obvious, I did a water change on saturday [15 gallons on my 90 gallon tank] and my nitrites still haven't gone down. amm- .25 nitrite- .50 nitrate- 10 PH - 8.2 temp - 79 Any help is much appreciated EJ |

sounds good, wouldn't / should the nitrites convert on their own to nitrates.

How long has your tank been set up? It looks like it is still cycling.

Well if you are using a DSB it usually takes a couple of months for the bed to stratify and develop de-nitrifying ability.

Yes, I have a 4 inch sand bed...That could be it. SO should I still do larger water changes or wait it out?

according to this:
Nitrite and the Reef Aquarium Nitrites are not a concern in the Marine aquarium.. only for Freshwater. |

I agree that nitrite is not an issue in saltwater tanks. Some 20% water changes might help clean up the water column, but I'd be worried more about any toxins, etc, released by the decay of live rock.
