sump vs refugium? what is the difference?

A sump holds the uglies - skimmers, heaters, probes, etc. -- while a fuge is a place to grow macroalgae to reduce the nutrients that feed the bad algae.

Or to grow copepods, mysid shrimp, and other critters that will help feed the main tank.
