Question Uses for carbon?

Besides getting rid of a yellowish tint to the water, what are some uses for carbon? Should I run it continuously, or only when needed? And how long should I keep a particular bag of carbon floating before replacing the pellets?

Thanks in advance!

I use carbon 3-4 days straight per month halfway between water changes.

IMO there is no reason to use it all the time.

I also use it in the case an animal dies or if my corals decide to have a chemical argument.

with the Ramora i would say only if you have more than two fish and your ammonia starts to register than use one that will give you 10x's tank volume per hour. at least 240gph min. it only sounds like alot.
