need to narrow this down..250,400,t5?

ok i need help narrowing down my lighting for my tank.every lfs with ppl i trust has sayed to go with metal halide 250-400w(250 supposedly being a more stable, hassle free light).only one of them recommended goin to t5 but they didnt have any in there stores or on there tanks.but everyone on this site seems to lean more for t5.help..
ok heres what i want in my tank:sps,clams,anem-
tank is a 65g with rear overflow 36x18x24
would 1 400 watt be a better idea than 2 250s?
would a tek light 8x39 t5 fixture be ok for these corals?
i want to stay away from a canopy and cannot(renting) put holes in the ceiling to mount in there.so something with legs would be the best possible option.i myself have had 150 DE and loved the color but i want something with a bit more light to really get those colors going.so any ideas regarding fixtures, setups, websites would be appreciated.
