Oil in the impellar housing. genx pcx 30
I just recieved in the mail yesterday a new genx pcx30 pump. It came packaged with some rubber plups in the intake and ouput of the pump when I pulled them out there was a light oily film inside. Is this normal? None of the other pumps I've gotten had any lube in them. Just wondering if its safe to use or if I should send it back.
Thanks

More then likely just a light oil that they put in there to ship I think. What I would do is if you have some extra PVC pipe laying around plumb it up and run fresh water through it to clean it out.

rya, just wash it out with some soap and water. most all the plastic parts i have gotten lately, the ac70 included, have had a mild mold release residue left on them. sometimes i wash it off, sometimes i dont, skimmer just goes a little flat for w hile if i dont wash it off. so just take it apart and wash the parts with something like dawn. then all should be well. my pcx 40 had this and i did wash it.

Horkn yeah in eureka. Looks like your pretty far from home. Have fun over there in chico. I lived in redding for a while, the first summer I was there It got up to 114 the heat is something I think I'll never get used to.
Ahh that makes sence. didnt think about that thanks Tim. I was wondering what it could be didnt think they'd put any kind of lube in it. All the other pumps Ive gotten had if anything alittle water in them but that was it.

since my Gf's grammy lives in chico, and my gf loves mendocino and arcata (and i want to get my sportbike on many roads out there) we will be coming back, hopefully for wine harvest season yet this year, but regardless, i bet we will get to that area of N Cali for many years... but the heat from chico was insane... and we actually rode bikes through Bidwell park when it was 95 degrees. it was still fun though.. next time i go, i will drop you a pm -Tom

Just a word of warning to anyone else who gets one of these. Its not just a mold release residue there is some sort of oil in it. Perhaps to ease initial start up or something. I tore mine apart and scrubbed the crap out of it with some dawn.

its probably the same stuff that comes on motorcycle (and car tires) as well, but yeah, i wouldnt want that stuff in my tank. a good cleaning couldnt hurt. who knows what exactly is in that mold release.
or, on a bike it could make you fall, well, if you were not careful the first few miles...

I've never made it as far as chico. I went to lake redbluff for the ihba drag boat races but that was about it. Yeah next time shoot me a IM.
I dont think its the same stuff as on tires. This was actually runny, looked like vegetable oil or something.
