Lighting for my 120

I am in the process of upgrading to a 120 gallon 48x24x24. It is going to be a mixed reef and I only plan on keeping 3-4 sps corals. Will I be able to get away with a 2x175 mh with 2x54 t5 for actinic? Or will I need something bigger? Thank you for your imput

If those 2x175w bulbs are 10k bulbs, you should be fine with sps in the uper part of the tank.

The idea behind the 250w is that it reaches the 24" depth where as the 175w bulbs do not. If you can, go 250w, you and your corals will be happy. Besides, placing corals near the surface of the water will produce problems when the corals start to grow. So you might as well go with a 250w set up to maximize your growing potential.

Right, I just disagree when people say "you can't grow those corals with that light in that tank."

If you can grow them with that light in any tank, you can grow them in this tank. Its all about depth the corals are at, and nothing to do with tank depth.

I've got 2x250w 12k's on my 120 and all of my corals love them.
