I'm using it - lowered my Phosphates to undetectable levels over night. I'm watching my cyno disappear and it's not growing on the glass like it did a week ago, but waiting for my silica test kit to confirm that silica is being removed.

So far, it works GREAT!

except that chemi-pure is for something completely different... powerphos is for removing phospahtes and chemi pure is, welll i dont really know what chemi pure is supposed to do, but it sure as heck isnt supposed to remove phosphates.... anyway i use phosban to remove any phospahtes in my system and it seems to work very well. Im sure the kent brand would work just as well also.

starseed,

Is it brown/rust coloured (ie, Iron based), or is it white (ie aluminum based)?

Its black granules, but when it gets wet it will give off a brown rust colour. You are supposed to rinse it in IO water. It is the same product as Rowaphos, just a litle cheaper. I changed over from Rowaphos to powerphos yesterday. I also used an NO4 depleter from Korralin. It is supposed to remove phosphates by improving the power of your skimmer. Before using, I had low phosphate levels, now they are undetectable. Along with all of my fish, because they were all dead last night when I returned home. Dont know if it was because of either of the two new products or because we were having an electrical storm. I lost 8 fish and one survived, a Kole Tang. I dont know if there is a corelation or if I was just unlucky. All the fish were just stiff on the bottom. No other signs, just stiff and dead.

WOW!!!

That sucks!!!

So you started using this product yesterday (along with NO4 Korralin), and by the end of the day all your fish died?!!!

That SUCKS!

How much did you use?

I have been using the No4 and rowaphos together for a long time now. I just changed the media in my phosban reactor to powerphos. This was all that was different. I am not saying this is the cause of my fish death, but all my water parameters are normal and everything else is a o.k.

How much did you put in your reactor, and did you rinse the powerphos beforehand to get rid of the dust?

Sorry for the crash... I've been there with ick.

The powerppos is black, brown and I'm using it in a phosban reactor. I ran it through 4 gallons of RO/DI water for a few minutes in a separate bucket. It made the water rusty colored.

I hooked it up about two or three weeks ago and added a full 150 can for a 55g - double the needed amount.

I have softies, LPSs, SPSs, fish (and am acclimating a rose tip now). None of them ever reacter to the addition of powerphos.

Like I said, Phosphates were undetectable overnight, the day before it was at.015 and has always been readable in the 4 years of the tank.

I just tested for silica, and that is undetectable too.

After 2 to 3 weeks, I'm sure it removed the silica. I had hard brown diatomes that would grow in the glass within a week and green hair algae under the overflow (out of reach of the turbos). Now there is barely a film over the glass after 8 or 9 days and the hair algae is almost gone.

Removing silica seems to take a little time.
