Unhappy What do you do for Home Insurance??

Hi,

I just got off the phone with Liberty Mutual (my insurance company) and was told that if my 90 gallon tank leaked and damaged my house, it would not be covered. Does anybody have an insurance policy that would cover this? Is it with Liberty Mutual?

This has really got me thinking, especially if you have a tank in the living room where you could possibly have the most amount of damage.

Thanks,

Dan

Last time I inquired about this I was renting and was getting renters insurance. Same thing, no coverage for damage done by a fish tank. Didn't bother to ask my homeowners insurance.

I talked to State Farm when I bought my tank. Water damage over time from a slow leak / neglect would not be covered. Water damage because the tank broke and flooded the living room would, just like if a water line broke.

Tank contents would not be covered in either case.

Subrafta is correct! I just spoke with my Liberty Mutual agent(my wife) and if the tank burst or failed all at once it would be covered. Just like a burst water pipe would be covered. The live stock will NOT be covered.

Subrafta,

Who gets to decide on whether it was neglect or an accident? The insurance company or the fire department? What about short circuits / fires because of the water damage.. Did they give/show you anything in writing about the coverage? Until this evening I was under the impression that I was covered just like you that was till I spoke to a supervisor.

Thanks,

Dan
