Bioballs in overflow?

I recently went from my 40gal reef, to a 80gal reef with a 20gal sump due to a leak in the 40 gal...

When i got the tank (we were in a bit of a hurry due to the leak in the 40 gal) The LFS suggested putting bioballs in the overflow to cut back on sound....

Now, i plan on putting a stand pipe in, but it might not be for a few weeks to a month... Will the bioballs in the location turn to a nitrate factory?

also, when i remove them, should i go slowly?

Also, running BB, wih LR rubble in sump...

Thanks for your help!

Just build a Durso standpipe. You can build one for a couple bucks.

Those bioballs are gonna be detritus traps in that overflow.

Exactly... And if you do some quick homework here, go get the parts and put one together, your looking at about an hour's worth of work, including the trip to the hardware store.

Yah, I already have the plans for the durso - just need to get away from my 65+ hour week job.....

Should i take the bioballs out slowly? or all at once?

I'd take them all out and put in the durso asap.
