starting up a quarentine tank, question about bio filter
hey all. decided to try and mate my maroon clown... asking for trouble, i know. I havent had my qt set up for awhile, and dident have it right the first time anyway.
question.. I have an aquaclear hang on filter (3 parts, foam, carbon, and lil bio balls or somthing) the foam part has been in my main tank for 1 month, and 1 week. will that have enough biologicals in it to keep my qt healthy? Ive rinsed it in r/o water a few times, but wasent going to change it out of my main tank for another three weeks... qt will be housing a 1 inch or smaller baby maroon. *aww so cute* for now..... lol |

If your main tank has been up and running for the 5 months you have listed in your Hobby Experience, then it should be ok if its in for over a month. Don't rinse it anymore before you use it unless your doing it with old salt water (from a water change) You can also help yourself by using some of your old saltwater to start your quarantine tank up.

i used 5 gallons of tank water and 5 gal of new r/o water. right now the salinity is 2.20 leaves me room to hypo if need be... I dident rinse the foam, so i have all these lil floates i have to suck out today. thanks for the reassurance my third qt attempt. first one was falure, second was awsome.

Salinity at 2.20 is way to high, the fish would float at the surface.
I would try and target 1.025 |
