tunze stream question

i know you cannot use the tunze controller on the tunze 6060 and 6080, but i was wondering if it is possible to use the red sea wavemaker or the natural wavemaker with it?

I think that technically it would WORK, but I think that it would be about as good for it as any other pump. Because they're not designed to power up and down as the other streams are, it's going to be hard on them (even with the red sea "soft start" option).

I could be wrong though, but as pricey as the Tunze powerheads are, I don't think I'd want to find out.

Ya, I am pretty sure they say not to do this, but I won't tell.

Ask Roger in the Tunze forum. He'll give you a straight answer and can tell you exactly why if it's not a good idea.

The directions on the Tunze 6060 state that it should only be turned on and off a certain number of times in a 24 hour period (10-15 times as I recall). I wouldn't use it on a wavemaker. Consider putting it on a timer to have it go on and then off again periodically through-out the day. You might be able to google and fine on-line directions that tell you exactly how many times is the maximum.

The other bad thing about turning it on and off is that the front is open so a fish could find shelter in there and when the propeller starts up...

Using those on a wavemaker will damage them and Tunze will not honor the warantee.

Josh I actually tried it with the redsea wavemaker, it does not function as well. I finally broke down and bought the multicontroller....well worth it!
