Flowerpot won't extend it's polyps

I have a beautiful FP coral that was doing well for the month I had it. I put a maroon clown in the tank that made the FP it's host for 4 days until I put a BTA in the tank. The clown moved over to the anemone but after a week the FP still won't extend it's polyps. Water parameters are perfect. I have 600 watts of mixed actinic and 10K PC's over the tank. Tried moving the coral closer to the lights, still no go. I feed phyto and zoo once per week. Any comments?

Try moving it to a gentle flow area. If it's getting too much flow it might not come out. They like to sway gently in the current, but not be blasted like an acro. Try target feeding some smelly food like DT's oyster eggs or cyclopeeze. Maybe you'll see a feeding response. I wouldn't feed until a day or so after I'd moved it to a low/moderate flow area.

Hey thanks guys. It makes sense that because it could not extend it's polyps that it might be starving. Will try to target feed tonight.

i know they go based upon high light levels. JBNY I think has one
and on his site he says how it only extends when his MH bulbs are on

hate to tell you this but flower pots rarely do well in captivity and almost alwyas die. they need metal hallides to survive also. its a shame because they are quite beautiful

Hate to tell you actually, but they do not NEED halides to survive. And I've actually had many customers keep their prize flowerpots for well over a year and with no issues. Correct feeding and correct flow are key.

Halides are not needed, I've seen them kept with just power compacts. The main thing to do is to target feed it regularly and give it sufficient flow. Granted even if you do everything right, the chances of survival for the Goniopora are still pretty grim. They just don't have a good survival rate in home systems.
