Toadstool "shedding"
I added a Toadstool coral about 3 weeks ago to my 90g established tank. All my water parameters were as I wanted. The Toadstool has done OK but on about 3 occasions it has shed a mucus like coating from it, it hangs on and slowly breaks apart and is like a think film like coating?
I'm only had one Toadstool year ago and don't remeber this, should I be worried? |

Dolfan
Thats totally normal. Leather corals often hide their polyps, go glassy, and shed a mucus. Just make sure there a slight flow near it so the layer floats off gently. Pete |

Use a turkey baster to blast it off.

I did use my turkey baster to get the mucus off, so I guess I'm doing things right :-). Just looked at it and it's polyp/tenticles are raised which is a good sign.

My toadstool did that all the time when we had poor lighting. It looked like when your skin peels from a sunburn. Since the light upgrade, I have cut it up, grown them huge, and cut them up again but, NEVER saw the skin peel off like before. People told me that is was normal but, I think I needed more light. My toadstool does not slime unless provoked somehow, unlike some other leathers I have.

Interesting about the lighting, I have this about midway in the tank which is 24" deep with about 400w of PC lighting. I'll watch it and maybe experiment with a high placement if it continues
