Reef in coffee table?
hi all, these coffee table style aquariums are nothing new, but I wonder if anyone has ever done a reef in them?
Prolly would be hard filtration wise.. but might be doable if you can go under the floor like in a basement or something. Anyone ever done this? I been thinking about it haha. heres the tank I like: http://www.stuffiti.com/2006/0524/fi...-coffee-table/ I think there are larger ones too. |

Filtration would be the easy part, how would you handle lighting?

Maybe in a room with a bunch of skylights you could pull it off. |

You could build a wrap around case and have MH's on the side. That would give you a top down only view tho.
Not sure of effect on PAR using MH's on the side going thru glass. David

oh yea true, lighting.. damn it gets harder and harder haha. especially cuz this thing is lit from below for freshwater fish. that would be blinding to say the least haha.

if u made a wood frame around the tank and gave urself some room between the top of the tank and the top of the table, u could fit lighting it. I think the way it is now (pure glass) is just asking for some1 to drop a bottle on it.

How about a pendant?
You might have to go overboard however on wattage since of the length between the light and tank. |

a hanging pendant sounds almost doable. The only problem would the overflow light and direct exposure to heat if you are sitting around the table on couches.. hmmmm
I kinda like the side lighting ideas tho.. dunno if its been done before. |

My roommate just threw a piece of beveled glass on a fish tank for a while. It looked ugly because of all the condensation on the underside of the glass - any fix for that?

t would work if the tank was enclosed and completely full of salt water, all of the time.
I guess you would have to have your sump *above* the tank for this to work though... not sure this is workable, can't take more then 30 secs to think about it before my boss catches me sur... *click*
