identify hairy crab
I have had my reef tank for more than a year and I just discovered a hairy, cream colored crab. Can anyone help me identify it.

Pic?.. Look at its claws, usually pointed claws bad.

Its hard to get a look at him. Its really hairy. Its the size of an emarald crab.

sounds like a gorilla crab. If it has dark or black pinchers it is. Bad crab. It will eat your snails and hermits. Get rid of it.

I have tried to catch it but have been unseccessful. Does anyone have any ideas how to catch him?

The best way to catch a crab is to find the rock he hides in, grab the rock and chase him out of the rock in a bucket using a hyposalinity wash. There are also traps that you can buy or make, the basic idea being that the trap is made of a very slick material like glass, positioned in such a way that the crab can crawl in, but not climb back out, and baited with some kind of stinky food that will draw out the crab.

i was amazed one day when i found a hairy teddy bear crab skin on my sand,took me about a week to work out his layer from food shells he dragged to his hole,i was sat one evening eating my tea when i seen his hairy leg move in the hole in his rock.within 30 secounds i had that rock out and in my sump,i kept him as a pet for months feeding him and watching him growthan i realised he must be bored all on his own in that sump so i killed him
