This is a great book:

The Conscientious Marine Aquarist: A Commonsense Handbook for Successful Saltwater Hobbyists by Robert M. Fenner "

Here is another short but great book, but it is really only for the true "newbie":

The New Marine Aquarium: Step-By-Step Setup & Stocking Guide by Michael S. Paletta

I agree with The Concentious Marine Aquarist. The first book I ever owned.

What about a some-what newbie? my experience is that I had a LFS that gave great advice but did not teach all that much. So I had to infer the reasoning alot and now that I moved from there I am basically starting over. I want to buy a book that will tie together what I've learned over the past couple of years and will prepare me to become a seasoned reef keeper.

Bob's book has good information even for novice level. Its also a hoot to read, both him and Anthony Calfo write with a very witty style so you find yourself laughing out loud or at least chuckling at times. Thats rare when you read something informative and funny at the same time. They interject a lot of personal experiences both good and bad in their books. They also include technical info but waren you if you are not a microbiologist to skip that piece, of course you read it anyway.
My next suggestions are the book co authored by both of the above titled Reef Invertebrates, Eric Bornemans book Aquarium Corals and Calfo's Book of Coral Propogation.
