fan

recently bought a metal halide 175 w/ 15 k lamp. can i run a parallel line to feed power to my fan? fan is 115 vac 220 mA and 20 W max. please advise.

If you mean feed it from the wires going from the ballast up to the bulb, No. The ballast boosts the frequency to the bulb.
You will probably find your AC fan to be noisy as I did with every one I ever tried. I finally settled on Vantec Stealth DC fans and a variable voltage DC power supply from Harbor Freight Tools or Wal Mart. Much quieter and you can vary the fan speed to suit your conditions. I run mine at 6 to 9v DC and they are really quiet.

thanks for responding. i saw vantec fans 120 mm on the net but they are for pcs. how do i power them up?

As I pointed out before, you get an old DC cell phone charger power supply or other DC 12V power adapter or better yet the variable voltage style I mentioned. They are less than $10 at Harbor Freight or Wal Mart. Just cut the pin plug off and wire it to the red and black wires on the fan. Ignore the yellow wire on the fan.

Some computers have controllers that can turn fans on and off or vary the speeds.
