Thinking of Removing Turbo Snails from Tank

They cause too many problems knocking clams and some corals over. I have about a dozen of them in the tank. Do you guys think I can throw them all in the fuge (40 gallon) ? Or will they run out of algae to eat there?

My tank gets a few small patches of algae on the front glass in about a week, so there's almost nothing for them to eat on the glass, and I never see them on the sandbed. They are always on my corals, stressing them out.

Or do you guys think it would be better if I trade the dozen large turbos w/ a few dozen smaller snails?

You could put a few in the fuge, the fuge will get alot more algae growth than the main tank in most cases. The extras that you have, you should be able to get a decent amount of smaller snails with the trade.

Can I just not put any snails in the tank for now until I notice some growth of algae? I really don't think there's much algae growth in the tank (although there's plenty in the fuge). Then if I notice a regrowth, I'll just grab the snails from the fuge and xfer them back to the tank.

I'm mainly concerned about this because they keep knocking things over and I will be out of the country for 3 weeks w/out the ability to turn clams or fallen corals ride side up.

You can leave the tank snail less, but you will always have some type of algae growth. If anything I would get some astrea snails, cerith, nerite, nassarious snails to help keep things clean in thew main tank. By the time you come back the tank will be full of algae, without a cleanup crew.

The snails I mentioned above wont harm anything, if the corals you have are mounted or placed where they can easily be knocked over then anything can do that.
Otherwise the astrea's stick to rockwork and the glass, the nerite, cerith, and nassarious will clean the substrate, glass, and som rockwork.
