leather turning black

there was a little black spot on a leather frag i recently purchased. i didnt notice it until i got it home, now it is spreading and it seems to be spreading pretty quick, i assume that it's dying but why. i'll try to post a pic maybe someone might know what in the world is going on, other than it's obiviously dying.
