Turning off the protein skimmer for chemiclean...

They want me to turn off the skimmer but use aeration stones/ pumps. Couldn't I just turn the water level low in the skimmer, get the bubbles but no collection of waste?
BTW...my reef guy says chemiclean my kill my corals and to beware of it. Opinions appreciated.

What I did is just take the collection cup off of the skimmer - lots of bubbles, but it doesn't take anything out.

As for killing your corals - I have done 2 treatmeants on my 300 gallon and haven't lost anything. Just make sure you do a few 20% water changes after the 48 hours.
