75g process of changing?

k i just filled up my new 75g i made 40g of new saltwater and i took 35g from my 55 g that has been runiing for over 2 years. i also took a couple of cups of my sand from my 55 to put in my 75g. i took one of my filters on my 55 to run it on my 75 and i bought a new filter to add on my 75. i also put like 20lbs of live rock from my 55g to put in my 75 . i have my 55 runiing still with my fishes in it while my 75 cycles. i wanted to know how long do i have t wait to tranfer my fishes into the new aquarium?? will it go through a cycle again?

yes it will go through a cycle again but it should be shorter. The more live rock you add the shorter it should be I would guess. Just keep testing the water and watch what it does.

That depends on how much die-off there is on the new rock, but I'd guess 4-5 weeks is a good upper limit.

I dont know about that? I did basically the same thing with my 29 to 75. It never showed any amonia or nitrates. May depend on how many fish you had also. I had just 3 fairly small ones. I transfered everything the same day I transfered the tank. including the fish.

I dont think you will get a full cycle think he missunderstood you with you puting some of you aged rock, sand, and that filter pad you should be good to go in a week or so at the most all depends though test it daily and see how the nitrite and nitrate act.

In this case why would one not move all LR and LS over to the new tank to speed up the cycle and use the old tank as essentially a QT?

sounds to me like he wants to keep his live stock in one tank until the cycle is over so he'll have to keep two tanks up and running.

You don't want to take all the live sand from an established tank because you can stir up all the "crap" that is in the lower end of the sand which is toxic from what I understand.

The tank might never show any ammonia, or it might show a lot. Live rock is highly variable. I'd give it 3 weeks of zero ammonia in any case, to reduce the odds that something large or toxic doesn't die and cause a problem.
