Question Flickering Metal Halide

Is there anyway to tell which part of my setup is causing the flickering?!

its really damn annoying and its constantly there, with a high pitch 'scratching' noise...

can i single out, through different processes, to see which component in my setup is causing this?

could it be the socket? the bulb? the ballast?

how could i tell which part is doing what??

when i have it on for a while, it continues to flicker... amlost like a flouresent light going out...

its a steady flicker, but a real low intensity, just enough to cause a bit of concern...

if its the bulb, no problem, but it seems like there's a lot of life left in it, its not too old...

im just hoping its not the ballast or the socket.

how could i tell if its any of those?

Well, if you like metal halide lighting, you're going to need a new bulb eventually anyway, so, perhaps, if you like the bulb, you could try a new one and see whether it flickers. The flickering sounds like a ballast problem to me, though.

if you wired the ballast yourself, i would check that. maybe something came loose when you put everything in the canopy.

it seems like the nipple (excuse my base term) of the light bulb male end is a little loose, do you think that would cause the flickering? a loose connection on the bulb?

I doubt it but you never know. Try a new bulb and if that flickers as well, you have a problem with your ballast.
