protein skimmer trouble

hi people as a 16 yr old with no job i opted for something cheaper when choosing a protein skimmer, saying cheaper i ment going on ebay. i found this proteinskimmer (brand new) and it not known here but i think its big in germany or something.

the problem is that the bubbles are coming out of the return pipe . the pump i am using is a fully submerged one rating at 1200l/h. is there anything i can do ? look at picture for details

There should be no water in the upper chamber (where your top arrow points to in your pic,) which is the collection chamber.

The water level should be somewhere in the lower compartment of the skimmer above the mechanism that creates the bubbles. You will probably have to tinker with that level until you get it to where it works best for you.

By the way...many skimmers create micro-bubbles. If you can, in any event, have the skimmer's return go into a compartment in your sump before the compartment that the return-pump is in, and have some foam between them. That would end the micro-bubble problem. If you can't do that, put a "filter sock" on the end of the skimmer's return and that will also probably resolve the issue for you.

hi thanks i dont have a sump but what exactly is a filter sock? before i stupidly go and put my own sock on the end.

thanks

or could i put some media there http://reefcentral.com/gallery/showp...p?photo=175855
look at the coloured in red bit to trap the bubbles and make them go up instead. if this is a better solution what media shall i use? but im worried that it could stop the water flow going down and back out the return pipe which could make the water go up and over flow the skimmer head.
