MH height from water level
A friend of mine has a 20" tank (height) and he has 2 x 150 watt DE MH's.
He just bought a Crocea clam and he is worried that the clam is not going to have enough light. His lights are 12" from the water surface..... how much he can lower them in order to be able to get more PAR ? He has a glass that covers the lamps so splashing wouldn't be a big problem. |

salutations fatboy, i would recommend you tell your friend to put them 8, inches above the water line as these 150's are not as powerful for the clams needs, hope this helps...

My 2x150w 10k are really close to the water (like 6in or less), but I am not sure what dangers that might promote. Tempered glass shield for sure.

I've had a 150 W fixture about 3 " above the water surface. That's the shielding glass, not the bulb. At some point, the tank might start to heat up, and the shielding glass will require more frequent cleaning. Those are the only issues that come to mind.

Thanks for the answers.......
I told him to lowere his lights to 8" to start (off course by lowering them slowly in order to not stress the corals....) |
