right time to add corals or anenomes
When should it be safe to add coral and or an anenome to a tank...I have heard 6 months to a year..and I have also heard after the tank has cycled...which I believe to be way too soon...and any opinion on what corals and what type of anenome might be good for a false perc clown to host? and anyone have an opinion on the condy anenome...I have read they are excellent beginner anenomes..then I have read that they move to much and sting everything in the tank...??

well........ not sure how long your tank has been running.
but once its done cycling... its gonna go through a algae phase that lasts about a month.... after thats done your good to add anything you want if you really want an anemone... add that first. that will wander around your tank until it finds a place it likes. if you have corals in there before you add the anemone... it will wander and sting your corals and possibly kill them.

Coltsfan....... a clown will pick pretty much anything to use as host!
i've seen with my own two eyes...... a clowns using: powerhead, pvc, hair algae and a heater mine chose a rock with 5 hairy mushrooms on it... before that he was using my leather so dont worry about it NOT hosting... within two weeks of being added to my tank it went to the hairy mushrooms you can try a BTA (Bubble Tip Anemone).... those are the most common and probably easy to care for (i may be wrong). and i THINK (again i may be wrong) they dont like to much flow try posting some questions in the anemone/clownfish forum

First off , check all your parameters and post them on here, dont just 'assume' everything is good and 3 months is too early to add an anemone IMO. If you chose to keep anemone make sure all powerheads/overflows are covered ( no , the basic fish covers dont work ) unless you like the look of anemone soup. The anemones i would suggest to the beginner are 1. aiptasia 2. majano's... lol , i would say either a BTA or S.haddoni carpet anemone would be your best chance at succes.
BTW, it is HIGHLY unlikely that clowns will host condy anemones. good luck, u going to need it. |
