My favorite as well. Mine wouldn't eat at first, but after a month of worrying he finally started eating like a pig. Then one day (months later) I found him dead..no signs of problems...I'm thinking murder (I had an evil fish in there that terrorized everybody..he's gone now)....but it could have been because of poor capturing too..who knows! Waiting for the 8ft tank to buy another one...I spent MONTHS shopping for one until I found one I liked.

I currently have a 4.5' on hold at the local LFS the pb had arrived 3-days before i purchased it. just waiting about 2 weeks before i pic him up. Just making sure the pb is stable from shipping he shows good signs already eats like a pig and seems very active.

That "died for no reason" thing makes me nervous. I've heard a lot of people say their powder blues were doing great and then just died. There was a poll awhile back on powder blues and I think less than a third survived longer than six months. They are my favorite fish and I really wanted one so when I saw a nice one at the LFS I decided to try. Two weeks now and he's doing well and eating, though not on a pig level yet. Is there any special tips on this, or any way to keep them from "dieing for no reason" other than perfect water? I'm worried for my poor little powder blue.

A friend of mine (who I would consider an expert as far as hobbyists are concerned) said it was probably from cyanide used at collection. Although the store I bought it from insists they don't deal with cyanide using collectors there is no way for them to know for sure since they're taking the word of somebody thousands of miles away.
PBTs are all live caught; I've yet to hear of a tank raised PBT, although I read an article once on catching PBTs right after spawning. Sudden unexplained death is very common for cyanide captured fish..not to mention the destruction it causes to the reefs. My friend has had a PBT for YEARS...it is so beautiful..most people admire this guy's coral growth..and I do too..but I really love his PBT. He has (I believe) a 6ft tank with only a handful of fish...I'm sure the environment is a great factor too..PBTs are tangs and tangs are swimmers...the old "Just keep swimming" line Dori used in Finding Nemo is certainly true! ![]() --Fizz

I had my PBT for 4 years in a 30 gallon and he did well until one day my heater broke
![]() I've now got another in my 90 gallon and my new PBT is the bully of the tank so to speak lol. He competes with a Lawnmower Blenny for food and he's not afraid to let him know who's the boss. Occasionally he also tries to tick off my Saddleback Clown when he's resting in his Sebae Anenome but that usually lasts only a few seconds until the SBC has had enough and then he reminds him who is the REAL boss lol. I've had the sudden death syndrome from a few tangs but not any PBT. The ones that have are: 2 Yellow Tangs 1 Lollipop Tang 1 Naso Tang |
