Euroreef help

The efficiency of my Euroreef has drastically fallen off in the six months. It is the cheaper model that doesn’t have a way to open the chamber to clean it. When I first purchased it, it would heavily foam when placed in 4-6 inches of water. I have since installed a gate valve. Now I have to crank it all the way down so that the water level in the stand tube is almost parallel with the skim-mate collection cup. I recently cleaned to pump, needlewheel, and venturi intake. It seemed to make it better for a very short time. I am now only getting about a cup of skim-mate a week in a 110 with 12 fish. This is obviously not right. There is a fair amount of growth and junk in the chamber itself. Unfortunately, the low end models of the euroreefs have a well known design flaw that prevents cleaning. Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this or how I can fix it.

Have you tried running your skimmer in a bucket that is filled with a two part mix of water and vinegar? This should help clean out any stuff you can't physically get to.

Check the Euroreef site or your instruction book for the exact amount of vinegar you should add to the water.

Worth a shot.

Thanks. That is a good suggestion.
