Rebuilding my tanks, One question
I am refinishing my oak stand for my 100 gallon as we speak. It will be a fish only now. I was ill for a long time and had a crash. Now I am better. It would be alot easier to make my 45 standard into a tank for (sps), hard corals only. I do not want to do a reef because I will be moving in a year. I really just like the hard corals, and would like to make a frag tank for hard corals in my 45 with egg crate shelves. Does having live rock really make that big of a difference. I have two 250wat 10k mh, I know its alot of power for a 45 standard(12*36*12.5 these are outside messurments), but I was wondering if it would work if I put them very high above the tank. Or just used one. I have the best reflectors for the mh. I forget the name something like lumeric. Let me know if there is any way of useing these lights with this tank please. Thanks

i think 2x 250 MHs would be fine for your 45 since you are keeping sps. You could probably buy a ceiling mount system or build a DIY hood and hang em 8-12 inches above your tank.

Thank you for your reply.
Side note. My stand is solid oak except for the base was particle board wich was falling apart. I removed the botom and replaced it with 3/4fiber board. I picked this over plywood because it would not warp and it seemed very sterdy. I used it before in fine furniture construction. I am sealing the fiberboard of course. I would highly recomend the use of this material in any type stand repair. Would be best to have double sided counter top, but that is not an option where I live. |
