I am having some issues with noise on my AGA megaflow 90G tank, I have the All Glass kit and have tried th durso standpipe.
What am i doing wrong, It is not that loud but my wife still complains about it... I do also.. Is there a certain height the pipe should be set at? I am looking for any tricks that anyone may be able to share. I made the durso accourding to the site and it was a bit louder that the All glass stand pipe. I the water level in the overflows about 1/2 Inch below the display water level. Please help me quite this thing down... |

Durso's work or dont work MOST of the time due to the exhaust hole on top....i've had to tweak mine in a few times...its now virtualy silent.
cover the hole with some tape and put a small into it...pen size...increase from there. Due this to both sides. same size on each side. HTH

I started the durso with a 1/16th inch hole and gradually worked up to a 1/4 inch hole using just about everysize in between. Only the 1/4 inch hole stopped the flushing, is my standpipe to tall?
Thanks for your help! Ryan |

Ever consider using the "Herbie" overflow method for your Megaflow?
Do a search on it. There's a big thread here on it that pops up every so often. You essentially rip out the Durso and replace BOTH the outflow and return lines with plain straight standpipes - one about half the height of the Megaflow chamber and the other just below the level of the chamber teeth. Below the shorter pipe you put a gate valve which is adjusted until the water level in the Megaflow chamber is an inch or two above the shorter pipe (but below the taller pipe). The both pipes exit below the water level in your sump. The return is then routed up and over the back of the tank like you would with a canister filter. Do it right and it's dead silent. Planning on using this method with my upcoming "big tank" (well, at least for me) project. |
