Unhappy Help!

Hey all.. a friend has recently given me his 90 gallon full set up. I am in the process of moving out of the country so I asked my mom if I could keep the empty tank and parts at her house.

While I was away my moms landlord had the house tented for termites.

Is this going to affect the tank in any way? It is an acrylic tank with rounded edges and the sump is acrylic as well. Would the acrylic have absorbed the gas and will it be harmful to the inhabitants when I set it up?

Thanks for any help!

I would clean the tank well with some vinegar and perhaps some diluted bleach (separate passes), rinsing well between and after carefully, and call that good enough.

You can buy polish that will help take those out.

Regards,

Pat

I think that most of that poison has a pretty short halflife. Meaning it becomes inert after a short period. They used to use poisons that would kill for years...problem was it would get into everything, the ground, then the worms/bugs, then the birds, then the kritters. There is a word for it that is escaping me now. Bioaccumulation? Anyway, most of the modern stuff doesnt last long. Heck at the restraunt I work at part time they come in and spray/dust with stuff that has a 6 hour halflife.

Now I dont know profanity removed about saltwater, but I am pretty sure a good cleaning will take care of anything you got on it.

I use toothpaste and a dremel with a polish wheel to buff scratches out of acrylic as long as they arent deep.

Thanks for all the input.. I should have mentioned that the scratches are in the inside of the tank.. would the same still apply?

They can still be polished. I use the Micro-Mesh abrasive papers. The acrylic polishing kits for tanks are based on them, but they can be bought in bulk more cheaply.
