Closed Loop Bubbles! Help!

I installed this closed loop after seeing melev's 29 gallon closed-loop ... and the magical part of it was that I was supposed to be able to prime the pump by pouring water where the cap unscrews .... I tried that and it didn't work ... it sounds like my pump still has trapped air in it?! What can I do ...

My CL...

I would just keep pouring water down there, after I stsrted my pump up it took about 15 secnds for it to start to work.
Another thing I would do is put a cap on the intake tube, and drill holes in the pipe. If you get something that gets sucked up into the pump it could burn it out.

Yea my pump works in a matter of seconds but as promised the bubbles don't go away ... I also thought of capping the intake like you said but for something to get clogged in there it has to go through my over flow teeth which are a lot smaller so it's quite impossible; not to mention I thought it would screw up how much water my pump needs to suck. Anyway I am leaving the CL on for the night maybe miraculously it'll fix itself!

it could be pulling in air from any of the joints. The tube that you use to prime the pump, is that air tight? Does it need to be? I would think that it does.

Your inlet is in your overflow....That wont work thats where your air is coming from. Looks like you did a good job on it besides that though..

Aha ... should I extend my intake tube lower into the overflow? I just hate to have ugly PVC in my tank

Sorry you will for sure have to move it out of the overflow for the bubbles to stop.. Just a couple of bubbles run into a pump turns into a million micro bubbles in the tank.. Same Idea as a skimmer.

You can get back pvc. Or take some of the purple Pvc primer and paint the pvc with it.. It will blend in pretty good.. Within a few weeks after Coraline starts growing on it you wont even knotice it anymore..
