splicing 2 pH probes together

I'm getting a new BNC pH probe today but it is only 42" long. I need it to be around 6' or so. I have the old probe that I'm replacing. Can I cut the wire from the old probe and splice it into the new probe? Both are BNC connections.

probe cable splice

Not easy to do because the outer conductor should be a braid. Might be best to aquire a female BNC end to your other cable. Most probes usually have a 10 foot cable anyway.

Thanks Loudell. I wish that this one had a 10' cable. The three probes that I've had have all been under 4'.

I would use an extension cable before I tried to splice the existing cable. Cutting the shield may or may not make a difference depending on the environmnet... but use use an extension of possible.
