You can usually see distinct polyps on hydnophora - for sure merulina

it is a hydno. do not put it with in 3 or 4 inches of anything it will send out a web and devour anything. this is some nasty s***.

Polyps are not always out on Hydnophoras.
Do Merulinas branch like that? |

Hydnos have more pointed tips - the rounded tips indicate merulina - they plate then develop columnar formations, If it was a hydno and the polyps were contracted, it would be way brighter

I'm leaning towards Merulina, but it could be Hydnophora.

My hydnophora looked just like that, only much larger, when I got it. It was bright green and stayed looking like that for months. I recently moved and reset up my tank. Now he looks like this:
