Cleaning the glass

I have a question about what to clean the glass of the tank with.

I heard Windex is bad because the Amonia can seap into the tank through the glass.

Someone said to use vinegar but how do you mix it?

How many parts of it to how many parts of water?

Also is using a paper towel ok or is there something better?

Thanks ( sorry for the stupid question )

Ammonia cannot seep through the glass. The only risk would be overspray getting into the water. Spray the windex on a paper towel in another room. Vinegar would be a safer route- maybe dilute it in 10 parts water-I personally use windex.

ya windex is fine, thats all i use. Vinegar never works for me anyways. And i just use paper towel, but i've found that when you get the cheapo walmart brand of paper towel, it wont be very good..it always leaves swirls on the glass...but whenever i use any decent one its fine.

I've used Windex on all my tanks for years -- never a problem. I don't go as far as spraying it on a towel in another room, but I do spray it away from the tank.

if your just cleaning salt residue off the glass, use distilled water and a squegee. If you need to clean a tougher stain then use a 1:10 dilution of simple green. That is what everyone uses in the lab I work at.
