Filling new 120G

I've been adding RO/DI water to my new 120g. It's been taking a long time since my RO/DO tank only holds 3 gallons and then loses pressure. I already have my sand in the tank. The tank has about 25g of RO/DI in it. I wanted to add more water and then add the salt. After the SG is correct, I wanted to start adding LR. The LR will be coming from my 50g. Does the water have to be heated when I add the LR?

unhook your ro from the tank, that way it is constantly filling, keep an eye on it though. it is best to have the water heated because if there is any good life on the rock, youre running the risk of killing it with cold water.

I agree with reefinmike, if the water is too cold, it will kill some of the life on your live rocks.

I always wondered about putting fresh water in the tank with sand and then adding the salt later. Will there be "fresh water" trapped in the sand or will it mix by itself?

I have always started with saltwater, mixing it outside the tank.
