I have four of them - 2 1500's and 2 620's. I am about to swap the 620's with 2 1500's as my tank could use more flow.
The 1500's are a bit difficult to restart, but the price is pretty good for the flow achieved. Some day, I will splurge for the Tunze units, but they just aren't in the budget at the moment.

Update:
I should have known better than to think that a RIO by any other name was something else. I rearranged my tank and decided to clean the 1500. Well, after 100 tries (literally), it won't restart. Considering that it's about 6 months old, I'd say it's pretty typical of anything made in Taiwan. This is the one place on my tank that I didn't fork over money for the better units and am now regretting that decision. You get what you pay for..... I am in charge of the demolition range in mid September, so I plan on strapping a block of C4 to this wonderful piece of engineering and hopefully send it back to the factory that made it.

2 820s for 2 years now. They start up every time, no problems. I've never even cleaned them.

I've had 2 M1500 and 2 m820 in my tank for a long time and have never had a problem starting them. I turn them off once or twice a day for feeding.

Sounds like a broken magnet. I had 1 month old 1500 do that to me. Was so angry that after I sent it back to be repaired (and it cost $13 to ship, and I had to enclose $5 for return shipping) I found out you can just buy new shafts for like $15 online.
I have 4 Seios and they now all give me problems restarting after a year. After the 1500 broke I purchased a vortech and replaced two of the Seios. I will be purchasing another Vortech to replace the additional 2 Seios in the future. |

i have before problem with broken magnet and i send email to taam with the invoice and they change it for free.
i have one more vortec pump in my tank it's a great pump but the flow from my m2600 it's the same as the vortec. what i don't like in the seio they big and heavy so they always slide down , i have a bare bootom so i decide to put them near to the bottom and use with the vortec in the side. for the price they are not so bad pump and can give high flow like the expensive pump , and if you have warranty for 1 year from the company i think it will be good for a person that don't have the option to buy the expensive pump . i suggest to put magnet on the pump at this way the pump will not slide. i use with my some time to flow bubble to the tank for about 5 minute and it's clear all the tank . here is picture with the seio flow air inside the tank . yes i compare my m2600 (2600gph) to my vortec 3000gph and i can said for sure it's not fall down from the vortec flow (i am not talk about the quality ) i run on my 120 3 seio m2600 on the bottom of my tank (it's bare bottom so no problem with sand flow all over) and one more vortec. but i think you can try 2 of them an after you put them in your tank you can see how they work in the system if you see you need more you can add after. don't forget they will increase some temp in the tank.

if you going to mount them like the tunze you will get the max flow from the pump. the problem with the pump they heavy and can slide down you can modify magnet that will hold them or to buy it. look in the link

THe $8 cleaner magnets from Petco (biggest size, sinking) will hold Seio 820s and Tunze 6060s fine. (the 6060 is huge and weighs a ton)

i want to try one on seio2600 but it's the big one and i don't know if the regular magnet will hold this pump. the cleaner magnet are more thick then those one and the mag 350 it's about $20 . i realy don't know if those can hold the big seio pump the rate them till m1500.

I dont use the magfloats. Theyre nowhere near as strong as the cheapo dark gray non floating ones they have. (theyre also thicker, like you said).
THe 2600s are huge though...so no idea. You could try neodidyum(spelling?) magnets, in acrylic, for a DIY solution.

I used an old Mag float to hold my 2600. It was the magfloat 350 though so not such a bargain It had about exhausted it's useful life so that is why I used it.
I put a cable tie around the power cord to something up top, sort of extra, just in case. Mine runs all of the time but sound like a freight train starting up, clicking and knocking.... but it moves a bunch of water. |

I have both a Tunze stream and a SEIO 1500. I have had the impeller seize up on both. On both they siezed when I tried to restart them after turning them off. Followed the instructions for cleaning the calcium deposits and they are both fine.
They both recommend regular decalcification maintainance that I did not do. The good thing is neither pump is harmed when it seizes. I have a 90 g tank; for a 120 I'd go with three Seio 1500s. The tricky part is how to arrange them so that they are hidden and provide good flow past your live rock. Hint; you can hook the Seios up to PVC to direct their flow, all the way across the tank if you can hide the pipe; its a perfect fit.

I got a 820 I hear alot of noise when mounted the way it shows on the box so I put it the other way I makes very little noise that way.
I do not know why it make noise mounted that way or will it stop that does anyone have the way mount has pictured on the box? I see alot of flow I had to face it up more it was turning up the sand in my 120 that was a one 820. All of you that have 820 and that have bigger ones what is the way you monut and point them not to blow the tank away? And it said not to use wave maker on it that means it with burn it up? |
