Two hitchhikers ... friends or foes?

I have some interesting growths which developed months after I added a new piece of live rock. (Photo below)

One I believe is Sargassum fluitans and I find it attractive. Should I leave it grow? Will it become a nuisance and start taking over the tank? Are there any small reef creatures that will inhabit such a growth in a nano reef tank?

The other (the frilly looking thing growing below the sargassum), I would hope someone can identify for me. Good? Bad? Indifferent?

Thanks all ..

Where was the rock from? Looks like it could be some ruffed up Padina.

It was a piece I got from my LFS. Not sure where it's from.

The unknown piece does get roughed up by my pair of clown fish.

The ruffed up stuff I believe is sargassum too. It starts out like that and developes leaves later. Sargassum is easy to control. You can just pull it out if it gets too much. Too bad you don't have a bigger tank. Makes great Naso Tang food.

I think you're right ... I looked it up on the net and I'm quite sure the "unknown" piece is a variety of Padina.

The Padina is slow growing, but I have to prune the Sargassum weekly. I do like the Sargassum. Is there any small fish or invertebrate that would make it a home?
