How to tell if bulb is burned out? (70W HQI)

My light suddenly turned off today. I'm certain its not the socket or anything like that.

Now I don't know if it's the bulb or the ballast.

The bulb has a hollow glass sphere within it with wires coming from either end. Are they supposed to connect or anything? Nothing jingles in the bulb. There are dark black and brown splotches on the inside of this sphere.

What do you guys do in an emergency like this? Mail ordering one of these things is going to tax my corals of like a week of light.

I just took it apart and ran a continuity checker thru all the wires I could access, and it all checked out. Plugging it in again, it flashes on and off for about five seconds then goes off completely.

Astralux bulb, NAiS ballast, any ideas?
