Heater in megaflow?
Has anyone ever put a heater in their megaflow? I was just wondering. Always good to ask questions first

Why not just put it in the sump?

Maybe if someone wanted to use the sump as a fuge? Or maybe like Nuuze said about the heater?

There isn't really any reason you couldn't have sump/refugium with a heater in it... put the 15 inch heater in sideways/at an angle...

I have a 250 watt heater in my overflow, it is the highest flow area of my aquarium and it works just fine. The water level is never low in the box so no reason the heater would ever be exposed to air.

It would be real nasty if your overflow didn't have enough water in it. I would play if safe and put it in the sump or directly in the system.

I have my heater in the overflow. The overflow is the area of maximum flow and by design the Mega Flow can not go dry. R

No reason not to.. It would work just as good as putting it in your sump.

So even if the power goes out and the megafow emptys, even when the pumps restart it will pump water back into the megaflow, so now im thinking it is as safe as in the sump.

your overflow wont drain anyway.. It should only drain to the top of the durso..If your entire oveflow drains you have a leak in your plumbing... Most peoples sumps aren't big enough to handle the tanks run off plus the contents of the entire overflow..
