Do frgas need to be acclimated?

Just got a couple frags, star polyps, mushroom and some other one, do these need to be acclimated?

You should acclimate everything just to be on the safe side. If the water parameters are different in the two waters, the coral can go into shock and can die from it. So it's recommended to always acclimate everything that goes into the tank other then sand, live rock, and food.

Ditto, in addition I'd strongly suggest QT everything. Sometimes flatworms, and other nasty "bugs" can hitchhike to your tank on frags, LS, LR, etc...

Here is a tip: when floating bags to equilize temperature, do not open them yet. This way they wont sink and water wont get it

another thing that i do when acclimating my things. i move them into ziplock bags that way you can open them to add water and still keep them floating.

Another reason to not open the bag while temp acclimating is to keep all the available oxygen "in" the bag before you acclimate pH and so on.

My fish store guy tells me not to ever float the bags. He says the temp will acclimate as you slowly add your tank water to the bag. What are your opinions on this?

I use a 2.5 gallon bucket. After temp acclimation I place the fish, or coral into the bucket. I will then drip tank water into the bucket for 20-25 min. Takeing small cup fulls of water out every now again....so eventualy it is only my tank water in the bucket. Just take things slow.

i would say take a trip to a holesaler. i was amazed at how they "aclimate" he was throwing frags in to a tank that was devided in to sections. i how evrer would not recomend this. i fig he can aford the losses. IMHO drip is the only way to go.

I pour the bag into a bucket and aclimate over about an hour with a drip, adding about twice the volume that came with the bag. But I know my PH, temp and SG are same as my LFS. Not sure if you need to take additional steps if those are unknown.
