is your tank even set up yet? if not, i wouldnt even start worrying about what type of corals to get.
But first...no, clowns do not need an anemone. I believe that its a pretty common misconseption...at least i see lots of people at the fish stores thinking they need an anemone...i bet its mainly because of that movie "finding nemo" But that coral pictured...i cant remember the name of it...but i've seen clowns host in that before. Clowns will host in many corals, mainly the softer ones it seems, but then again, mine host under my powerhead and magfloat algae scraper. Do you know how many gallons your tank is tho? And how many watts does your light put out? $105 doesnt really tell us what light that is, as it could be anything. Same with the skimmer...what kind? if it was only 47 dollars...i wouldnt expect too much from it. But check out the newbie stickies at the top of the page..that will help narrow your questions down a lot, which will in turn help us help you more

Your numbers seem really off to me. I checked out your skimmer, and you're going to be really disappointed with it, and replace it with a more expensive one. Save yourself the $47. It looks like you've decided to buy the cheapest stuff you can find, pretty much across the board. If this is your first tank, I wouldn't recommend that strategy... it will end up with one of two results:
1) You'll quit and sell the whole lot in a yard sale for $40. 2) You'll continue with the the hobby and have to replace it all. |

i agree with shagsbeard. That skimmer's not going to do anything. You only get what you pay for in this hobby...nothing more.

gotcha thanks theatrus
For a skimmer then...are you gonna have a sump? if not, i'd say go with the coralife superskimmer 125 or higher...i believe the 125 is still a hang on one? Not sure about the 220 or whatever the next biggest one is. Skimmers are always overrated...meaning if you get a skimmer thats rated to 75...then imo...its not going to be very efficient on a 75...more like 60 or less.
