Water parameters seem too good

Hello all.. I have a question about a new tank. I am new to this hobby and have set up a 10 gallon tank, I have live rock, 3 damsles, a shrimp, and very small hermit crab in it . My brother gave me some live sand from his established tank. it will be 3 weeks on monday since set up and a water test tonite shows 0 amonia, 0 Nitrites, 0 Nitrates, and 8.5 PH, over the last 3 weeks the amonia and nitrites have been showing up but in scarce amounts and now nothing. Did this tank not cycle so severley because of the addition of the "borrowed" sand or? I have a hard time beleiving the tank hasn't started cycling with all the stuff I have in but I'm no expert. Any thoughts are appriciated.
Thanks

Seems like alot of fish for a newly established tank, and alot of damsels even when its cycled. 0 amm, trates and trites, is agood sign that the initial cycle is over. What are your future plans for the damsels.

Thanks for the Welcome. This hobby has "hooked" me, and I already realize I wont be happy with a small tank and plan to upgrade very soon, so the fish will get some much needed space

My tank has been up for about 4 weeks now. Added my first fish last week with some hermits and snails, added my second fish today. All my levels (nitrates, nitrites, ammonia) are at 0 and have been. I started the tank with live sand and live rock.. I'm just going slow and hoping it doesn't crash. I'm gonna stick with the 2 fish for a few weeks now. Never really got any spikes

Hey Zek,

In my opinion your brother is a great source of advice and wisdom, try and get as much information from him as possible.
