CSS 125 pvc mod does not work

I have a CSS 125 for my 75 gallon tank and have tried to modifiy it using a 1" pvc tee as recomended on the CSS thread. Unfortunately, the 1" pvc is too big so I went down to a 3/4", which is too small. I bought the pvc at Lowe's and was told that there is no pvc that will fit it because it is a special size. Anyone have this problem? I would really appreciate any advice. I've had this skimmer for a few months and have yet to get it to work properly. It's sort of frustrating that we spend so much money on equipment only to spend more money modifying it because it doesn't work like it should. I know this is a good skimmer and really want to see it working properly without all of the microbubbles. My sump is too small to house it so that is out of the question. But, my husband suggested taking out the lr rubble in my sump and put the skimmer pump and diffuser hose in there. It would fit but barely. Please help!
