ive got an idea for an hang on self priming drain

i think this will work.... please post your input.

I was thinking about using pvc to make a u bend that would hang on the back of the tank like an overflow. The intake would be apporximately an inch under the water surface. I know if the power goes out that the tank will drain till it looses suction... but after looking at the cpr overflows i got an idea. If i were to install an airline hose at the top of the drain and attach an aqua lifter pump to the airline, theoretically it should remove the air from the pvc and re prime the siphon.

will this work?? all input is greatly appreciated.

where are all of the engineers?? lol, any imput is appreciated. I dont want to spend alot of money on an already expensive aquarium since im in college. Ive already got a surface skimmer on my ac remora, so there is no need to skimm the top with an overflow.

without the box on the OUTSIDE of the tank for the other side of the 'u-tube' (yours will just be a straight pipe going down right) it wont work...

the only way it would work is if the drain pipe reached the water in the sump, and if it did the aqua-lifter would have to pull the water all the way up the wide drain tube. i have no experience with aqua-lifters but doubt it would be able to do it..

right?
